Astronomy Fun Fact #96

The Moon is tidally locked, which means one side of the Moon is always facing the Earth.

An interesting consequence of the Moon’s tidally locked status is that craters aren’t evenly distributed across its surface. The far side of the Moon gets hit by a lot more asteroids and meteors than the near side because it’s more exposed to the part of space where those rocks fly.
